MISSISSIPPI

As a full time caregiver for my 98 year old Mother, I see the problems in getting help or placing her in a nursing home. Her only income is her Social Security check. Yet, she draws a few dollars to much to qualify for full Medicaid benefits. I needed for her to be in a nursing home, but every place I contacted, said they had no Medicaid beds, unless she went into the hospital for three days and then rehab, she could possibly be put in long term. However, if we had the money for private pay, there would be no problem getting a room. If she did not live with me and my husband, I honestly don't know what would have happened to her, as I have no siblings and she is the sole survivor of her family. I can foresee what it would be like should I need care later on, I would have too much income for government help and not enough for private care. I am sure there are thousands in the same boat. Long term insurance is too expensive and it is a guessing game as to how much you would need.
